Classics (Greek & Roman Civilization, Latin, Greek)

As so much of European culture looks back to Classical Antiquity, studying Classics will give you insights not just into the ancient past but also into the ideas and texts that shaped the present.

 

 

What happens on the day?

During the UCD Classics Summer School, you will receive riveting lectures from leading experts connected with the programmes, participate in interactive workshops, while also receiving information on the wide ranging career opportunities available to graduates.

Who can apply?

The Summer School is for students who are going into 6th year or Year 13 (A Level) in September 2017.

What does it cost?

The UCD Classics Summer School costs €35 and includes a sandwich lunch and tea/coffee. A reduced rate of €15 is available for applicants whose families are in receipt of job-seekers or disability payments. If you wish to avail of this discount rate please email Kathy.L.Murphy@ucd.ie before booking your course.

10.40 – 11.20 Greek drama (Professor Michael Lloyd)
11.20 – 11.40 Tea/coffee break
11.40 – 12.40 Classical Museum visit and artefact handling (Dr Jo Day)
12.40 – 1.30 Lunch in UCD Restaurant
1.30 – 2.10 Ancient history (Dr Philip de Souza)
2.10 – 2.50 Latin from inscriptions (Dr Helen Dixon)
2.50 – 3.30 Ancient Greek (Dr Bridget Martin)
3.30 – 4.00 Refreshments and informal chat with students and staff of School of Classics

Registration will take place on the ground floor of the Newman Building; all talks will be held in room K217 in the School of Classics, and the Classical Museum, K216.
